Confirmation Group Visit Llantarnam

Nineteen of the 23 candidates for confirmation were up early on the Sunday after Easter. The catechists were there too - with the exception of one of their number who was with family in Australia. We set off for Llantarnam Abbey on our 'Day of Reflection' and on arrival at Llantarnam, in good time for Mass were all delighted by the sight of the sisters who were already at morning prayer in the beautiful chapel.

After a break for welcome refreshments, the day continued with a mixture of games, walks, meditations and reflection. Despite an awful weather forecast the sun broke through the clouds and candidates were able to enjoy the visit to the cemetery where catechists explained that the Sisters and the bishops and priests buried there were enjoying their eternal rest!

Other activities continued, making the most of the work the Sisters have done on the woodland walk and the labyrinth. From meditating with clay to silent prayer in the oratory; from thinking about their future as Catholics to enjoying time together (with a good supply of biscuits); the young people of the Parish joined in everything that was on offer with their usual enthusiasm (and gravitas when appropriate). All agreed it had been a good day despite the early start.

This visit marks the half-way point in our preparation for the big day on 11th June, 2014 when all members of the Parish are invited to join us in this year's Confirmation Mass in St Joseph's Church for the celebration of the sacrament by Archbishop George. The photographs in our Gallery show some of the activities which took place and clearly demonstrate the joy which our youngsters have in taking part in this programme.
